Imphal, Sept. 7 -- Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh told the state Assembly on Monday that the government is examining individual cases of unlawful and criminal activity linked to the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023, but has not declared either the Village Volunteers or Arambai Tenggol as banned organisations.
Responding to a short-duration discussion moved by opposition MLA K. Ranjit Singh, the Chief Minister said the unprecedented violence that broke out on May 3, 2023, pushed many youths to take up arms. While some acted with good intentions, he said, others may have engaged in criminal conduct.
