Imphal, July 22 -- A Bailey bridge constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was destroyed in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Kamjong district today, severing the only road connectivity to several remote villages and prompting a police investigation.
According to police, the explosion occurred in between Phange and Chatric villages over the Namban Lok River.
Preliminary investigations indicate that suspected militants planted IEDs on the bridge, causing extensive damage and rendering the structure unusable.
The bridge served as the only road link connecting Chatric and more than ten surrounding villages with the Kamjong district headquarters.
