Srinagar, March 24 -- A court in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday convicted a man in a POCSO case and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

According to police, the conviction was secured in a case registered in 2021 at police station Kralgund in Handwara. The Principal District and Sessions Court Kupwara sentenced the accused, Irshad Ahmad Mir, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act.

In addition, the court awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 363 IPC. Both sentences will run concurrently.
