Mumbai, Aug. 8 -- The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a man within 12 hours of an alleged incident in which he abused and threatened a woman passenger with a belt inside a Mumbai local train, an official said here on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Rizwan Ansari, was arrested from Govandi after the Borivali GRP took suo motu cognisance of a video purportedly showing the incident.
Police examined CCTV footage and other evidence before tracing and apprehending Ansari, the official said.
A case has been registered against him under Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 296 (obscene acts) and 115 (assault) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said.
