Kolkata, July 16 -- Amid an intensifying organisational crisis in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following its crushing defeat in the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, party supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday issued a stern message to leaders planning to desert the party, asking them to do so before the July 21 Martyrs' Day rally.

The appeal came amid a continuing exodus from the party, with several former ministers, MLAs, MPs and senior organisational leaders quitting the TMC in recent weeks, the latest being Rajya Sabha MP Koel Mallick, who submitted her resignation on Thursday.

A section of the party has already aligned with the faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, while former minister Madan Mitra recently switched camps.
