Kolkata, Aug. 16 -- Former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday expressed deep distress over the death of former minister and five-time Rampurhat MLA Ashis Banerjee, saying the "immense mental and emotional strain" he appeared to have endured in his final days made the tragedy even more painful.
Ashis Banerjee's body was recovered from the office of his political organisation near his residence in Rampurhat on Sunday morning.
Police also recovered a one-page suicide note from the spot in which, according to preliminary information, he did not hold anyone responsible for his decision.
