Kolkata, May 30 -- Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and leaders of Opposition parties at the national level on Saturday condemned the alleged attack on Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and accused the BJP of fostering a politics of violence.

Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly attacked during his visit to Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district.

Banerjee had travelled to Sonarpur to meet the family of Sanju Karmakar, a Trinamool worker who was killed in post-poll violence.

According to the Trinamool Congress, the party leader faced protests on the way and was allegedly assaulted by a group of people.
