Davanagere, April 5 -- The discontent within the Congress ahead of the by-election in the Davanagere South Assembly constituency has been resolved, with senior leaders projecting unity after days of internal unease.
State Minister SS Mallikarjun and Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan met at the former's residence here on Sunday and shared a public embrace, signalling reconciliation and a united front ahead of the crucial contest.
The rift had emerged after Zameer strongly advocated for a Muslim candidate in the by-election and reportedly lobbied with the party high command. However, the Congress leadership eventually finalised Samarth Shamanur as its nominee, leading to some confusion and discontent among local party workers.
