Bakamo, Aug. 3 -- Former Malian Prime Minister Moussa Mara has called for national unity, reconciliation and empathy after completing a one-year prison sentence linked to a social media post supporting detained opposition figures.
Mara was released on Saturday, August 1, he announced on Facebook post after serving his sentence over allegations that he undermined state credibility and spread false information. He had been detained in August 2025 and later sentenced in October to two years, including one year in prison and one year on probation, over comments criticising restrictions imposed by Mali's military government.
