Patna, April 4 -- Bihar's makhana (fox nut) has emerged as a strong national and international brand in the financial year 2025-26, marking a significant transformation of the traditional crop into a globally recognised product.
Bihar Agriculture Minister Ram Kripal Yadav, describing 2025-26 as a historic year for the makhana sector, said on Saturday that the export of GI-tagged Mithila Makhana to Dubai marked a major achievement as it has enabled farmers to connect with global markets.
He added that the establishment of the National Makhana Board and implementation of development schemes have accelerated production, processing, and exports, thereby improving the livelihoods of lakhs of farmers.
