Mumbai, Aug. 10 -- A major mishap was averted in Vashi when a crane engaged in the redevelopment of a government building collapsed onto a busy main road near Kopri Petrol Pump in Sector 26 official said here on Monday.
According to officials,on Sunday around 11 pm the crane suddenly lost balance while being used for construction work and crashed onto the carriageway, causing panic among motorists and pedestrians and briefly affecting traffic movement.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The spot witnesses considerable vehicular and pedestrian movement, and officials said the collapse could have resulted in a major tragedy had the crane fallen on a passing vehicle or pedestrian.
