Bhubaneswar, June 9 -- In a significant blow to Maoist insurgency in the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border region, security forces on Tuesday unearthed a major Maoist arms and explosives dump in the dense forests of Kirmitti and Katuapadar under Mathili police station limits in Odisha's Malkangiri district.

The operation was carried out jointly by personnel of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and the Border Security Force (BSF) following intelligence inputs obtained during the interrogation of surrendered Maoist cadres. Acting on the information, the security teams launched an intensive search operation in the area bordering Durva police station in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district and recovered the cache at around 5.30 am.
