Bhubaneswar, June 15 -- In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking in Odisha, the Special Squad of Angul and Chhendipada Police on Monday busted a brown sugar racket and arrested five alleged drug smugglers, including two women, seizing around 11.5 kg of brown sugar from their possession.

Police also recovered Rs 15,370 in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking, 27 paper slips believed to contain records of drug transactions, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle during the operation.

The arrested persons have been identified as Pupun Sahu (26), Sandip Pradhan alias Khitu (34), Deepak Pradhan (36), Kajal Parwin (27), and Kuresa Bibi (52). All the accused have been produced before the court.
