Chandigarh, Sept. 1 -- Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday demanded Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's resignation and a CBI probe into allegations that the chief minister's wife intervened in a rape case, playing purported audio and video clips before reporters to press his case for an investigation outside the purview of the state police.

"Justice is being derailed. Bhagwant Mann should resign," Majithia told a press conference that lasted for about an hour. He said the allegations were serious enough to warrant either a CBI investigation or a court-monitored probe.
