New Delhi, May 19 -- Major General (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, AVSM, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, ex-Union Minister and a decorated Army officer, passed away in Dehradun on Tuesday. He was 91.

A soldier-turned-statesman, Khanduri leaves behind a legacy spanning military service, public administration and politics.

Born on October 1, 1934, in Dehradun, he was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army in 1954 and went on to serve the nation for nearly 36 years. During his distinguished military career, he participated in the 1962 Indo-China War, the 1965 Indo-Pak War and the 1971 Indo-Pak War, where he commanded an Engineer Regiment in the Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
