Lucknow, Aug. 27 -- Salim, the prime accused in the high-profile 2018 Kasganj Chandan Gupta murder case, died late yesterday night at the Lucknow jail hospital. He had reportedly been suffering from a prolonged illness.
About a month ago, Salim was granted parole and had visited his home. The incident traces back to January 26, 2018, when violence broke out between two communities during a Tiranga Yatra (Tricolour rally) in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh.
Amid the clashes, 22-year-old Chandan Gupta was shot. Later he succumbed to his injuries, triggering widespread unrest and communal tension in the region for nearly a week.
