Mumbai, July 15 -- In a major boost to the agrarian sector, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a sweeping waiver of Rs 48,000 crore in outstanding electricity dues for farmers across the state.
The Chief Minister declared that the government would fully write off the legacy electricity bills of agricultural pumps up to 7.5 horsepower (HP). The move is aimed at providing a "clean slate" to farmers, ensuring they are not burdened by old arrears while seeking new power connections or operational upgrades.
"Our objective is to ensure that the farmer is free from the 'hanging sword' of old dues. We want their financial records to be completely clear," Mr. Fadnavis stated.
