Mumbai, June 16 -- In a major boost to rural livelihoods and women's empowerment, the Maharashtra government has announced an ambitious scheme to lease fallow government land to women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that under this new policy, eligible women's SHGs will be allotted one hectare (approximately 2.5 acres) of vacant revenue department land on a five-year lease. Additionally, each SHG will receive a financial grant of Rs 1 lakh to initiate productive activities.
