Mumbai, Dec. 25 -- The Maharashtra administration has announced strict penalties targeting the use and sale of banned nylon manjha during the upcoming Makar Sankranti festival.
Anyone found using nylon manjha will face a fine of Rs 50,000, with the same penalty applicable to parents if minors are involved.
Sellers caught stocking or distributing the synthetic thread may be fined Rs 2.50 lakh per violation. The fines will be imposed per offence, and collected funds will be utilized for the treatment of manjha-related victims and public awareness drives.
The move follows recurring incidents of serious injuries and deaths linked to razor-sharp kite strings.
