Nagpur/Mumbai, July 13 -- : A helicopter purchased by the Maharashtra government for anti-Naxalite operations remained out of service for over 17 months due to delays in appointing a maintenance agency, resulting in an avoidable expenditure of Rs 2.07 crore, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has pointed out.
The observations were made in the CAG's Compliance Audit Report for 2024, which was tabled in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on July 10.
According to the audit report, the state Directorate of Aviation took nearly 10 months after receiving the aircraft to finalise a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) agency authorised to carry out mandatory inspections and ensure the helicopter's airworthiness.
