Vijayapura, July 24 -- Even as Karnataka grapples with drought conditions following a weak monsoon, the state's second-largest Almatti Reservoir is on the brink of reaching full capacity, buoyed by heavy inflows from the Krishna River triggered by incessant rains in neighbouring Maharashtra, raising hopes for irrigation and drinking water supply across North Karnataka.
The Lal Bahadur Shastri Reservoir, popularly known as the Almatti Dam, is now just one metre short of its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 519.60 metres. According to official data released on Friday, the water level stood at 518.58 metres.
