At such times, the availability of protected irrigation facilities through plastic-lined farm ponds has strengthened both water conservation and horticultural development, said Dr. Kailas Mote, former Director of the Maharashtra State Horticulture and Medicinal Plants Board (NHM).
"The future of this sector is bright, and because farmers are responding positively to both community and individual farm pond schemes, Maharashtra stands out at the national level," Dr. Mote added.
