Mumbai, April 1 -- In a major relief for farmers across the state, the Maharashtra Government has allocated Rs 500 crore towards a pending farm loan waiver.

The funds have been released under the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana 2017.

Of the total 50.60 lakh eligible farmers identified under the 2017 scheme, around 44.04 lakh farmers had already received the benefits.

However, nearly 6.56 lakh farmers were still awaiting loan waiver assistance.

Following directions from the Bombay High Court, the state government approved a total provision of Rs 5,975.51 crore during the December legislative session to address the pending cases.
