Nagpur, Aug. 1 -- : Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Saturday launched a month-long mega tree plantation campaign from Lok Bhavan, with an ambitious target of planting 10 lakh saplings across Nagpur city and district to strengthen the region's green cover and promote environmental conservation.

The drive, which will run from August 1 to 30, envisages the plantation of five lakh saplings within Nagpur city and another five lakh across the district.

Of these, around 10,000 saplings will be planted inside the Lok Bhavan premises.

The initiative is being jointly implemented by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), the district administration, Zilla Parishad, Forest Department and Green Foundation.
