Mumbai, Aug. 26 -- In a significant move coming right on the heels of renewed political tension over the Maratha quota stir, the Maharashtra government has extended the tenure of taluka-level genealogy matching committees by one year, giving them until June 30, 2027, to complete the verification of historical records needed for issuing Kunbi, Maratha-Kunbi and Kunbi-Maratha caste and validity certificates.

The decision, announced through a government resolution, comes amid renewed political and social tensions over the Maratha reservation issue and growing pressure to speed up the verification of historical records.
