Mumbai, June 16 -- The Maharashtra State Cabinet on Tuesday approved a one-time, six-month extension for elected representatives in municipal councils, nagar panchayats, and municipal corporations to submit their caste validity certificates, providing a major reprieve to hundreds of members facing potential disqualification.

The decision, taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, addresses procedural delays that have hampered the submission process for candidates elected to reserved seats.
