Mumbai, Jan. 21 -- A social awareness campaign has been launched across Maharashtra urging citizens to stop giving cash to beggars and instead provide food and drinking water, in an effort to curb organised begging and related social problems. The initiative, which gained visibility on January 21, calls on people to refrain from offering money to beggars, irrespective of age, gender or physical condition.
According to the campaign message, if a woman, man, elderly person, child or person with a disability is seen begging, they should be offered food and water, but no cash should be given.
