Mumbai, June 24 -- In a major policy shift aimed at curbing the rising incidence of child marriage across Maharashtra, the state government is in the final stages of approving a proposal to make it mandatory to print the official birth dates of both the bride and groom on wedding invitation cards.
Inspired by the success of similar regulations implemented in Rajasthan, which resulted in a significant decline in underage marriages, the Maharashtra government is preparing to enforce this strict new framework across the state. This move comes in response to alarming data presented in the State Legislature, which revealed that child marriage remains a critical issue in various rural and remote districts.
