Mumbai, Sept. 4 -- The Maharashtra government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis approved significant amendments to labour laws that will increase maximum daily working hours for private sector employees from nine to 10 hours.
The cabinet meeting held yesterday cleared these changes following recommendations from a central task force, bringing Maharashtra in line with states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura that have already implemented similar reforms.
The amendments to the Factory Act 1948 introduce several major changes including daily working hours in industries increased from nine to 12 hours with rest breaks now required after six hours of continuous work, up from five hours previously.
