Gadchiroli, May 13 -- The state government on Tuesday granted administrative and financial approval for the construction of an airport at Gadchiroli by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC).
The Home Department has long been demanding an airport in the district to strengthen efforts against Naxal violence, while the Industries Department has pushed for a facility with a large runway, as Gadchiroli is emerging as a major steel hub with nearly 18 steel companies proposed in the region.
According to District Collector Avishyanth Pandey, the airport will be located around seven kilometres from Gadchiroli city and will have a runway of approximately 3,100 metres, capable of handling bigger aircraft.
