Chandrapur, Nov. 8 -- The Maharashtra government has approved Rs1,768.08 crore under the Director General (DG) Police Housing Loan Scheme to facilitate home construction for 5,459 police officers and personnel across the state.
The approval follows persistent efforts and follow-up by the former Forest and Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, who raised the issue repeatedly in the state legislature. The official order sanctioning the funds has been issued by the deputy secretary of the Home Department.
Under the DG loan scheme, police personnel without personal housing are eligible to receive a construction loan of up to 125 per cent of their basic pay from the Police Housing Department.
