Mumbai, March 16 -- The political temperature in the Maharashtra Assembly in the ongoing budget session has heated up following the introduction of the Maharashtra Freedom of Religion Bill 2026.

With a three-day debate scheduled in the Assembly, the state government has introduced the bill to prevent religious conversions carried out through force, coercion, or allurement. The demand for this law has been pushed by BJP MLA and Minister Nitesh Rane.
