Pune, Sept. 21 -- Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal on Monday urged the state government to provide immediate financial assistance to farmers affected by drought-like conditions, saying that crop losses had left farmers in severe distress.
Addressing the issue, Sapkal said that crops had withered in several parts of the state due to prolonged dry conditions, while farmers were being forced to plough over damaged crops.
He alleged that the government was only carrying out administrative procedures without taking concrete steps to provide immediate relief.
"I have prayed to Lord Ganesha to give the Chief Minister and the government the wisdom to provide immediate assistance to farmers," Sapkal said.
