Nashik, Jan. 7 -- The Maharashtra health department has claimed that the infant mortality rate among children under five years of age has decreased due to free health check-ups and necessary treatments and surgeries provided to all children from Anganwadi children to those up to 18 years of age.
Under the National Child Health Programme, children in Anganwadis and schools in Nashik district are receiving free health check-ups and treatment through mobile health teams.
The department has been particularly successful in effectively controlling diseases like thalassemia and cleft lip and palate.
