Mumbai, July 2 -- Following the tragic death of a 55-year-old man who died after falling into an open manhole at Khairani Road in Kurla-Sakinaka stretch, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suspended four officials and blacklisted the contractor, civic officials said here today.

The deceased, identified as Aslam Isak Shaikh, was walking while on a mobile call when he lost balance and fell into the manhole where safety grill installation work was underway. BMC, Mumbai Fire Brigade personnel attempted a rescue but Shaikh could not be saved.

Taking serious note, BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide ordered the suspension of Assistant Commissioner of 'L' Ward Dhanaji Herlekar, Assistant/Deputy Engineer Deepak Chougule, Junior Engineer ...
