Amravati, Sept. 18 -- Two young undertrial inmates lodged in Amravati Central Jail died within a span of one month, prompting a social worker to seek the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for a probe into the conditions there.
The deceased have been identified as Adil Qureshi, a native of Mumbai and Mohammad Mohasin, a resident of Akola.
Both were lodged in Amravati Central Jail and died while in judicial custody within a month.
According to reports, the jail administration has attributed the deaths to illness.
The incidents have raised concerns over the welfare of prisoners, the availability of medical care, health conditions inside the prison, and the effectiveness of jail administration protocols.
