Mumbai, July 2 -- Senior Congress leader and MLC Satej Patil today launched a sharp critique of the Maharashtra government, targeting the ruling dispensation over the ongoing trend of political defections and the severe infrastructure strain in Mumbai following the recent heavy rains.

He argued that the "devaluation of politics" stems primarily from a weakened anti-defection law. "Had the anti-defection law been strictly and timely enforced during the splits in Shiv Sena and NCP in 2022, the nationwide wave of political instability could have been curtailed," he stated and alleged that the government's failure to enforce these laws effectively has emboldened the culture of political horse-trading.
