Mumbai, April 25 -- Tensions flared in Dahisar after Shiv Sena leader and former MP Sanjay Nirupam accused workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) of carrying out a violent protest and attacking his vehicle during an interaction with autorickshaw drivers today.

Nirupam stated that he had gone to speak with rickshaw drivers regarding their concerns over the Maharashtra government's recent decision making knowledge of Marathi language mandatory for permit holders-a move introduced by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. While the decision has been welcomed by parties like Shiv Sena and MNS, Nirupam has openly opposed the policy.
