Mumbai, June 23 -- A heated debate erupted in the Maharashtra Legislative Council over the proposal to rename the renowned King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital as Kaushalya Eklavya Hospital. Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha strongly pushed for the name change, while the state government appeared to adopt a cautious stance on the issue.
Questioning the urgency behind the proposal, member Milind Narvekar of the Shiv Sena (UBT) asked why the government was so keen on changing the hospital's name. He remarked, "Was King Edward a terrorist like Ajmal Kasab?"Narvekar noted that the hospital was established during a plague outbreak and argued that King Edward's historical role should not be ignored.
