Mumbai , July 14 -- The body of a newborn baby was found in a drainage line near Mumbai's Cooper Hospital in the Juhu area of the city suburb, prompting police to launch an investigation to identify the infant and trace the person responsible for abandoning the body.

According to police, the body was noticed by hospital staff on Monday evening, who immediately alerted the authorities.

A police team rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death.

Police have begun scanning CCTV footage from areas around Cooper Hospital, Juhu, Vile Parle and adjoining localities to identify any suspicious movement that could provide clues in the case.
