Mumbai, Feb. 23 -- Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe today took serious cognisance of the illegal oocyte (egg) sale racket unearthed in Badlapur town of neighbouring Thane district and has submitted a representation to the Maharashtra Director General of Police demanding stringent action.

The racket came to light during a police operation in the Joveli area of Badlapur, where an organised network was allegedly targeting financially distressed women, extracting their oocytes through artificial procedures, and selling them illegally. Dr. Gorhe termed the incident a grave violation of women's reproductive rights and said it amounts to human trafficking.
