Mumbai, Aug. 12 -- The 1,005-square-metre plot of the defunct Alexandra Cinema in the Byculla-Nagpada area may soon lose its reservation for cinema use and be opened for residential development.

A proposal in this regard, based on a recommendation from the state Urban Development Department (UDD), is scheduled to be placed before the BMC Improvement Committee for approval on Wednesday.

Alexandra Cinema, which permanently shut down in 2007, has remained unused for nearly two decades. The single-screen theatre was once known for screening Hollywood action films and English reruns.
