Mumbai, July 2 -- A senior citizen died after falling into an open manhole on Khairani Road in city's Sakinaka area during heavy rains today.
The accident occurred while drainage grill repair work was being carried out by contractual workers engaged by a private agency.
According to officials, the manhole cover had been removed for maintenance, but the opening was reportedly left unguarded. The victim, identified as Aslam Isak Shaikh (55), a resident of Yadav Nagar, Sakinaka, was allegedly talking on his mobile phone while walking, when he accidentally stepped into the open manhole and was swept away by the strong water current.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s Fire Brigade received an alert at 12:26 p.m. about the incident...
