Mumbai, Oct. 11 -- Political temperature soared in the metropolis today when Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray launched a blistering attack on the state government and the police administration over heavy-handed security clampdowns and arbitrary detentions at the historic Shivaji Park, Dadar in central Mumbai.
Condemning the high-security deployment that virtually transformed the iconic neighborhood into a "war zone", Thackeray accused the authorities of systematically strangulating democracy in broad daylight.
