Nagpur, June 12 -- A child marriage involving a 15-year-old girl was prevented in Kamptee town near Nagpur after officials intervened just hours before the ceremony, authorities said on Friday.
Based on information received about the proposed wedding, a joint team of officials from the Women and Child Development Department and local police reached the venue and stopped the marriage from taking place.
Officials said the minor girl was safely rescued and shifted for counselling and further assistance.
The matter was subsequently brought before the concerned child welfare authorities for necessary action and protection.
