Nashik, May 11 -- Farmers across the district have been left utterly distraught as the ongoing slump in onion prices shows no signs of abating.

Receiving rock-bottom rates for the onions they cultivated with immense toil, farmers took to the streets to express their outrage by dumping their produce on the road.

Meanwhile, today's market rates saw onions fetching a minimum price of Rs 300-400 per quintal, with an average rate ranging between Rs 800 and Rs 1,000. Small-sized 'Golti' onions fetched a meager rate of just Rs 1 per kilogram. Witnessing the abysmal rates offered for their hard-earned harvest, one farmer, in a fit of frustration, threw his onions onto the roadside.
