Chandrapur, Oct. 25 -- A 58-year-old farmer was mauled to death by a tiger in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, forest officials confirmed today.

The victim was identified as Vasudev Sitkura Wethe, a resident of Akapur village under the Talodhi forest range in Nagbhid tehsil. Vasudev had reportedly gone to his farm to inspect his paddy crop when the attack occurred.

The tragic incident has once again drawn attention to the persistent issue of human-wildlife conflict in the region. Villagers alleged that the tiger responsible had been spotted several times in the vicinity over the past week, but forest officials failed to take precautionary measures.
