Gondia, Sept. 15 -- A 72-year-old farmer was killed in a tiger attack in a forest area near Zurkutola village in Maharashtra's Gondia district on Tuesday, triggering fear among residents living along the forest fringe.
The deceased was identified as Vatu Bakaram Raut, a resident of Zurkutola in Sadak-Arjuni tehsil.
According to forest officials, Raut had gone into the forest to collect fodder when a tiger, reportedly hiding in an area designated as 'Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) compartment number 524', pounced on him. He died on the spot.
Villagers later found the body and alerted the forest department and police.
Forest personnel rushed to the spot and began tracking the movement of the tiger.
