Sindhudurg, May 13 -- The pre-monsoon rush to stock dried fish is currently underway across the coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra, but this year seafood lovers are facing a sharp rise in prices.
A diesel shortage triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia has severely affected fishing activities, leading to a major decline in fish supply and a steep hike in dried fish rates.
Due to inadequate fuel availability, fishing boats have reduced their trips, resulting in lower arrivals of fish in markets. Traders and consumers in markets across Konkan, including Ratnagiri and Khed, are struggling with the impact of the shortage and rising costs.
