Mumbai, Sept. 11 -- The Bombay High Court today strongly criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) over the accumulation of garbage on city roads, observing that the city appeared to be engulfed in filth and questioning whether the civic administration had become ineffective.
The court made the strong observations during the hearing of a petition filed by residents of Kannamwar Nagar over pollution allegedly caused by the Kanjurmarg dumping ground.
A division bench, comprising Justices Girish Kulkarni and Neela Gokhale, questioned the civic administration over the prevailing sanitation conditions in Mumbai. The bench asked whether the entire city had been surrounded by garbage and whether the municipal machinery had stopped ...
